There are some great birthday gifts to choose for the lady gamer in your life.

Whilst she may be a PC, console, mobile or retro gamer keen for a new-release game, there are also surprise ideas she may not have considered buying for herself, whether that is tickets to a gaming event or a subscription to the fast-growing gamer subscription services. Surprising her for her birthday with a gamer gift will show how your support for the passion she has for the sport.

The best new games of 2020

The summer 2020 releases to consider as gifts are Waking for Xbox One and PC, a dark action-adventure game set in the mind of a coma patient where the combat is fast and brutal despite its dream setting.  Check out Colt Canyon for PC, Xbox and Nintendo Switch which is a Wild West 2D shooter game in which you play a cowboy who has to shoot through enemy ranks to rescue their partner. Night Call for Xbox, Nintendo Switch is a noir mystery is already out on the PC, in which you are a cab driver in Paris on a night shift. West of Dead is a twin-stick cover shooter that takes place in the Gothic town of Purgatory, which you too can play, a surprise for your gamer lady.

Add a romantic touch

Although games as a birthday gift may be something she will enjoy, you may want to consider something else for your gamer lady to make it extra special. A special birthday gift for her would be something romantic like a beautiful red rose formed into a necklace or for the gothic gamer a natural rose dyed and preserved in black for a unique and personal touch.

Gaming subscription

The world of gaming is changing, with gaming subscription services suited to all types of gamers, so you are sure to find one that will suit. Listen carefully and you may hear her drop hints about what she would like best. Playstation Plus for PS4 releases free games each month, including massive hits like Bloodborne and The Phantom Pain which alone cover the cost of the subscription. Xbox Game Pass has all of Microsoft’s popular games, including State of Decay 2, and Crackdown 3 with games downloaded instead of streamed. Nintendo Switch Online offers lots of old games whilst Twitch Prime, built-in to the Amazon Prime price, now includes free games for PC and Mac. Humble Monthly offers recent games and a collection of indie treasures. Utomik stream games that you cannot find anywhere else, whilst EA Access for Xbox One, PS4 and Steam offer new games included in the subscription price and Origin Access offers great PC games at a low monthly fee.

Subscription box

If you are not sure about the games, consider a gamer subscription box that turns up on her doorstep each month with some surprising merchandise related to all things gaming.  These are lucky dips, but the value of the monthly box is usually far more than the monthly fee.

If she is a total nerd for anything related to the biggest game franchises, a subscription box may be the best gift you can give. However, it is a gamble knowing if what arrives each month is what she will enjoy, but this is a luxury gift she is unlikely to have considered for herself.

Gamer competitions and events

Many planned competitions and events in 2020 have been cancelled including the Mid-Season Invitational, one of the league’s premier international competitions, but this was replaced at the end of May with the Mid-Season Streamathon. Many other esports competitions, including Dota 2’s The International, has been indefinitely delayed and the next Fortnite World Cup, will be 2021 at the earliest, but if she is keen on the fighting game tournament EVO, which will only be online, make this a special occasion at home, waiting on her to fulfil her wishes so she can focus on the tournament. Gift her a new gaming chair from which she can enjoy the entertainment and order in some of her favourite foods so that she feels thoroughly spoiled and her joy of gaming appreciated.
