5 Largest Maps in PC Games

PC games are the ultimate level of home entertainment. These games let you be something more and different. It lets you explore around the respective virtual world and enjoy it.

With every year these games get better and better like bingo promo codes.

One of the aspects we gamers appreciate is the map size. Especially when it is an open-world game. Open world games let us walk and roam around freely. Not only that, but it also lets us interact with its environment, elements, and many other things. The bigger the map is, the better the game will be.

Over the past decade, we have had a lot of open-world games with considerably bigger map sizes. So here are 5 of them with the largest maps. Be sure to give them all a go.

No Man’s Sky

If you are talking about PC games with the largest maps, No Man’s Sky is something you must put on top of the list. Its map is so big that no one can explore it totally in their lifetime unless they have discovered immortality.

No Man’s Sky was developed by Hello Games. It was initially released in 2016 but could not live up to the hype then. But Hello Games did not leave it like that. They continuously worked on the game to what it is today.

Now the game is much playable and better in every way than it was back in 2016. The game is also getting updates and developments to this day.

One fun fact about No Man’s Sky is that the developers themselves don’t know what is in the game. It’s so big that most of the part of this game is left unexplored. If we talk about the map, the whole universe is the map of the game.

Yes, this game has the whole universe in it with different planets, stars, and galaxies. The total count of planets in No Man’s Sky is 18 quintillion. The actual planet size is almost half a quintillion more.

The universe was procedurally generated and that’s why developers don’t know about everything. So they did what astronauts in real life would do. Send probes to explore and collect video feedback.

In this game, you explore different planets with different environments and life forms. It is a fun exploring game that is also impossible to complete because of such a huge map. No Man’s Sky is like an actual virtual universe.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

The Witcher 3 is one of the greatest open-world games with a considerably big map. The map size of The Witcher 3 is 84 miles2. Initially released in 2015, CD Projekt has put way too much attention to detail in this game and that is what led the Witcher 3 to be the most favorable open-world game to this day.

One interesting fact about this game is that the map design was not intended to be 84 miles2. They worked on it and when they put all the pieces together, it summed up to that number.

In Witcher 3, you play Geralt who is a witcher. Throughout the story, your journey all around the map looking for Geralt’s adopted daughter to save her from the coming evil that wants her power. It is a great game with too many elements that make it almost feel like you are playing in the real world rather than just a simulation.

Grand Theft Auto V

The Witcher 3 might be the most detailed open-world game with a huge map but no other open-world game is as fun and engaging and also huge as Grand Theft Auto V. Grand Theft Auto was the pioneer of open-world games.

Developed by Rockstar Studios, you are allowed to do anything in this game. Crash your car, kill people, jump from the highest building in the city, die and get back at it again. All of this is what made Grand Theft Auto famous. Grand Theft Auto V is the latest addition to this franchise.

It was initially released in 2013 where you follow the story of three persons with different ideologies. The story offers different missions and tasks that are scattered throughout the 31 miles2 maps of the game. Yes, it is significantly smaller than the witcher, but the witcher 3 was missing the modern-day vibe.

Grand Theft Auto has that real modern world vibe. The map of it was based on Los Angeles and Southern California. It has everything. Cities, sub-urban, beaches, seas, deserts, mountains, and even a military base. The addition of multilayer pushed the experience one step further.

Red Dead Redemption 2

Another great open-world game by Rockstar Studios. This one has a beautiful linear storyline but a vast open-world with so much to explore. Red Dead Redemption 2 is the biggest launch of Rockstar games since GTA V. It shows how much the game engines have improved. Corpses decaying with accurate dynamics, trees burning into ashes, NPC’s reacting differently, it’s all visible in this game.

However, Red Dead Redemption 2 does face some controversies with its map size. The developers at Rockstar studios say that Red Dead Redemption 2 has the biggest map that Rockstar studios have ever created. This surely leveled up the hype of this game.

Gamers were well satisfied with the level of detail in it. The map was also huge as Rockstar said but mathematically speaking, it is nearly 29 miles2. Rockstar did make a bigger map than that in GTAV. So we can assume that it was an overstatement by Rockstar Studios.

The Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild

The Legend of Zelda has the biggest loyal fan base. The franchise started way back and here we are with The Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild. It is not only visually stunning but also much more exciting than the previous ones.

This game comes with a huge 29 miles2 map that leaves other great titles like The Elders Scroll to shame. The game just doesn’t leave us with this huge map but lets you explore every inch of it. It is by far the best Zelda game with a large map.

Final Words

Games with large maps are surely meant to be exciting but that is not always true. The map has to be realistic and engaging like it makes you feel the environment around you and interact with it. You may find games with bigger map sizes. But most of the time, they are not explorable or they are just the seas. So the best games with large maps are the ones that let you explore the map freely.
