Game developer twins pay off parents mortgage with gaming earnings

Dropping out of school to make video games pays off for pair of compassionate nerds.

Ben and Matthew Horton, identical twins who decided to quit school at 16 to pursue a career in making video games, have given their parents an amazing early Christmas present by paying off the mortgage on their house.

The programming nerds decided they didn’t need a school telling them to pursue a career in date entry on minimum wage, and went it alone to create a free-to-play mobile game that would charge players £5 to unlock faster progression. From there, they have gone on to produce a variety of online games and plan to take their budding gaming empire to California (COVID rules permitting of course).

Their Dad was initially suspicious when he found they had significant amounts of cash in their bank accounts, even suspecting they were dealing drugs – but was delighted to find out they were dealing in digital crack instead.

Matt became an expert in video game trailers, while brother Ben built up his programming skills.

In fact, mere months after they quit sixth form, they put together an adventure gaming movie The Last Guest and accompanying game Guest World.

This netted the identical nerds £67,000 in just its first year, and they have now created 20 more games in Roblox. And of course, Lockdown has helped make them loads more cash as everyone has needed a distraction from the ass-polyp that is 2020.

Matt remarked “Views of my videos have doubled and engagement with our games has increased by 30 to 40 per cent.” (He almost sounds like a doom-mongering SAGE stooge with fanciful figures like that).

Lucky timing for these lads perhaps, but well deserved. Well done boys, this proves you don’t need school, all you need is a bit of graft and a few video games to inspire you.
