Luminosity have booked their place in the Logitech G Play Connect playoffs after a turbulent finals day in Poland ended with a 3-2 record in the Bo1 group stage. The Canadian organisation’s win over Ninjas in Pyjamas proved to be the result that separated three teams chasing the final qualifying berth.
The day began badly for Luminosity, who dropped their opening map 13-7 to GamerLegion on Nuke. They responded with a 13-9 win over Metizport on Mirage, before a narrow 11-13 loss to group leaders B8 on Dust2 left their playoff hopes hanging by a thread. A dominant 13-4 win over M80 on Ancient steadied the ship ahead of a tense 13-11 victory over NIP, also on Ancient, to close out the day.
That final win against NIP carried extra weight. Without it, Luminosity, NIP and GamerLegion would all have finished level, and NIP would have taken the remaining playoff slot on tiebreakers. Instead, it is Luminosity progressing to the knockout stage, while both NIP and Liquid have been eliminated from the Logitech G Play Connect field, according to HLTV.
Individually, Aleks ‘Rainwaker’ Petrov, who previously played for Liquid, was the standout performer for Luminosity, posting a 1.22 rating across the five maps played on finals day. Aurélien ‘afro’ Drapier was not far behind with a 1.19 rating over the same stretch.
Luminosity fielded Oscar ‘AZUWU’ Bell, Rainwaker, Simon ‘yxngstxr’ Boije, afro and Lucas ‘lux’ Meneghini throughout the decisive matches. NIP’s lineup in the loss consisted of Adam ‘adamb’ Ångström, Martin ‘stavn’ Lund, Kacper ‘xKacpersky’ Gabara, Karim ‘Krimbo’ Moussa and Rasmus ‘sjuush’ Beck.
The qualification marks a positive turn for Luminosity, who have had a difficult period since transitioning into Counter-Strike 2. The result follows a second-place finish at the Roman Imperium Cup VIII and adds Luminosity to the growing list of organisations securing playoff spots across the current esports calendar, joining teams already through in competitions such as ESL Pro League Season 23.
Luminosity are set to return to action in the Logitech G Play Connect playoffs on 19 September, though their opponent and position in the bracket have yet to be confirmed.
