FOKUS began their Counter-Strike 2 playoff campaign in the second PGL Bucharest Open qualifier on Wednesday 14 October without dropping a map. Their quarter-final win over Just Players earned a semi-final place in a one-day event that ran from the last eight to the grand final.
Two maps, 28 and 69 minutes
The opening map lasted 28 minutes. The second went on for 69 minutes before FOKUS closed out the best-of-three.
The result matched the power rankings. FOKUS went into the series 62nd with a rating of 1693 and a record of 52-40 across 92 rated matches. Just Players sat 95th on 1650, with 46 wins and 41 defeats from 87 rated matches.
FOKUS halt a three-match losing run
The win ended a poor sequence for FOKUS. Their three previous series had all been defeats. Nordic Partners Gaming beat them 1-0 in the first PGL Bucharest Open qualifier. Before that, BBL won 2-1 and JiJieHao won 1-0 against them at ROG Journey Autumn 2026.
Just Players arrived with the opposite recent history. They had won four series in a row before this qualifier cycle: 2-0 against Misa Esports at the NODWIN Clutch Series Season 13, plus 2-0 over ENCE, 2-1 over Leo Team and 2-0 over Saint Sinners at ESL Challenger League Europe Cup #8. Nuclear TigeRES ended that run with a 1-0 win in the first PGL Bucharest qualifier. This defeat makes it two losses in a row.
Nuclear TigeRES deny FOKUS in the grand final
The other quarter-finals produced two deciders and one clean result. Nuclear TigeRES beat Phantom 2-1, Younglings beat Nice Try 2-1 and Butterfly beat UPGRADE 2-0.
FOKUS kept their form into the second semi-final, beating Younglings 2-0. In the other half of the draw, Nuclear TigeRES beat Butterfly 2-0 to set up the final.
Their winning run stopped at two. Nuclear TigeRES won the grand final 2-1. That made them the team to beat both Just Players and FOKUS across the two Bucharest qualifiers.
